As a blogger, do you practice SEO?

Yes, content is KING. No one can deny that. Without good content, that is pointless to do SEO.

In this post, I will share my point of view why we should do SEO on our blog, and what’s the limits.

First, for those who do not know what SEO is.

SEO = Search Engine Optimization

It is the process of improving your web site ranking in search engine results.

It is an effort of to make your web site appear in the search result when people look for some keywords.

The main search engine now is Google. As what you see on this diagram taken from http://www.searchengineoptimizationcompany.ca.

So, focus on google and you will get all. (Really )

What you think in your head? Let’s say "search engine optimization for blogger".

Type "search engine optimization for blogger" in the input area and click SEARCH

A new page will load listing all the web site that appropriate or related with "search engine optimization for blogger".
I notice here on my side it is a post from Problogger.net who is on top of the listing.

Now, if your blog is also about "search engine optimization for blogger", you might want your blog post showed on the search result instead of the post by Darren (Problogger.net).

Why Bloggers Should Practice SEO?

We know, you have write such a good content there. A good, detailed explanation tutorials on how to do this, on how to do that. And maybe a good sense of humor there.

• How will people find your good content if it not appear in the search engine?
• How will people read your nice humor if it not appear in the search engine?
• How will people find your great blog if it not appear in the search engine?

Advantages of doing SEO

• More traffics from the search engine.
• More people will read your blog.
• Your blog will become popular.
• You your self become popular.
  If you’re not looking for fame, it increase your credibility instead. Or both!
• Higher CTR if you monetize your blog with PPC.
• Higher CPM if you monetize your blog with CPM based program.
• And lots more.

Disadvantages of SEO

• A lot of work.
• Time consuming.
• Need much more effort.
• I think that’s all is only excuses. There are no disadvantages of doing SEO. You got what you give. Remember that.

The Good Practice of SEO

Don’t over do it. Yes, that’s the first rule. Don’t get so into SEO. Keep your content quality always at the tip top quality.

What I do is,

• After installing the Platinum SEO plug in, it is useless if you don’t use it.
  I write the excerpt for the post and targeted my keywords on that certain post carefully.
  Just take this effort as a one time investment. Don’t rush.
• I always put value in the alt attribute for images.
• I rename my images before uploading.
• I put alternate text for flash content. (<object></object>)
• Again, I never over do it. Let’s fate and luck determine it.

 

 

 

The Limits

For blogger, you should not hire someone to the SEO. You should do it on your own. But if you really don’t have time, well it’s up to you.

The limits of doing seo for your blog is, avoid any black hat or SEO trick on your blog. Why? Something is illegal is not always good, you’ll find a hard time if rules change. Just keep it at standard practice. Besides, blog are already very-very SEO friendly. The thing you need is a good content.
