I’ve been trying to use the Paypal merchant service.  The Add To Cart Button.  It was so simple and all the transaction was handled by Paypal.  But it lacks of feature where buyers cannot choose the quantity of the item.  Buyers only can choose how many quantity they want when they want to check out at Paypal cart where Paypal will list all the item and buyers can alter the quantity before clicking the PAY NOW button.

Using this simple solution also lacks of tracking.  We do not know how much sales for today for example.  We need to manually find the top seller and other.

For small business with limited of item, this solution is great.  But for a growing number of product.  The Paypal Add To Cart Button is just not enough.

Stay with me for later post whether I have find a good solution for this.

I have been falling in love with WordPress Content Management System(CMS) since my first year in blogging arena.  It was and still is a very user friendly CMS to develop a self hosted blog.  It just not “friendly” to user but also very friendly to Google bots.  They have been quite a good friend that if you notice, when you do a search using Google search engine, if the result is a blog, 99% of it would be made of WordPress CMS.

I’ve been trying to use Joomla last time but it overwhelmed me with its slow loading even on admin interface, and there’s such things as module, etc which is not user friendly at all.  But indeed, Joomla have more advance feature than WordPress.  But the learning curve is hard and boring compare to WordPress which is “direct to the point”.

There’s other CMS called Drupal.  This CMS is light.  Fast loading.  Because it was “empty”.  The basic default function will not be enough to run a lively blog.  You need to install or code yourself a nods to add more functionality.  This CMS is considered a kits compare to WordPress which is Ready To Run.

So today me and my friend decided to setup an E-commerce website for out future business which will be based on printing and design services.  Let’s see if I can develop an E-commerce website using a WordPress CMS.

This is suppose to be posted in my other blog, WPThemestudio.com but it is down, offline and I don’t want to lose the inspiration and post this here.  Nevermind, I will post something more details there later.

Detecting The Problems

First, we want a website to be functioning as a webstore.  This webstore will display the picture, prices, and brief description about the product.  It will use paypal shopping cart feature so we do not need a hassle to write a program for the shopping cart.  It will have flat rate shipping to all country, or fixed shipping price to supported country.  Payment will be processed by paypal.

Can I do It?

I think yes.

Just recently, I tried to make a plugin that shows latest video that inserted into custom field.

I am using the code below to grab the value of the assigned custom key.

But when it attached to dynamic area, it can’t grab the key value.

But when I directly paste the code on home.php, it works!

Just so suddenly!  WordPress 2.8 official version was released.  I notice the update when logging in into my localhost wordpress blog, mean for theme making.

So, I simply click Please update now. and then choose automatic update.
The upgrading process run smoothly and then it run the update database wizard and all done.

The user interface do not change… a lot…
It still like WordPress 2.7 interface.
But in Wordpress 2.8, we can decide how many columns we want the widget in our dashboard.

In WordPress 2.8, there are Theme browser, something that functioning like plugin browser that was introduced in WordPress 2.7, just, this is for themes instead for plugins.

Other function, I am not yet find out…

WordPress 2.8 claims that they are faster than WordPress 2.7 because the scripting and styling were re-engineered so it becomes light.

Top Browser

You can click the image above to enlarge it.  The image above show statistic data I get from Google analytics on PANGERAN.ORG.

The top ranking browser use by visitors to my website is Firefox!  With more than 64% users.
It followed by Internet Explorer, but just contributing to around 18% only.
Third place is Google Chrome, my favourite browser because it is so light and fast!

By checking my other websites, I found out that that they have similar browser ranking!

Meaning?

Firefox have won the “Battle of The Browser” so far…

I have bought another domain to develop a new blogsite about my favourite topic, mobile gaming.

This blogsite will generally discuss about best games of all time.  From the creation of fix screen game watch, to gameboy, then nds, psp, and now we even can play games on our mobile phone!  Not forgeting iphone and ipod touch.

The blogsite is just so new that it still using the default wordpress theme with only one welcome post.

The domain games8mobile.com bring the meaning of Games at mobile.  Games on your mobile handheld device.

I use the number 8 because it is much more easier to remember, and because we cannot have @ in a domain name.

Beside that, the number 8 also represent good luck.

With Google Custom Search, you can give a better search experience to your website visitors.  As we all might know, Google is the LARGEST SEARCH ENGINE nowaday, right at the time of this post was written.

Being the largest and top is not as simple like what you may think.

Installing The Google Custom Search Which Returns The Search Result In Your Website

This example is done with wordpress default theme.

First thing we have to do is getting the code of google custom search.

To do this, you have two option, using adsense or directly to google custom search website.
But both wizard is identical, so don’t worry much about it.

At the first page of the wizard, fill all required field to your like and then click continue.

At the second page of the wizard, you are presented with options on how to customize the look of your search form.
My recomendation is please make the text box lenght to 18 or shorter than that according to your sidebar width.
But if you planning to put your custom search on more wider placement, you can make the number greater.

The third wizard show you an option on where the search result will come out.
Please select Open results within my own site .
Before you fill out this field, please open a new window/tab on your browser and login to your wordpress dashboard and make a new page.
Click save draft and the permalink of the page will be visible underneath the title field area.
Copy the permalink and paste it on the field at the google custom search wizard just now.
You can customize the color palete according to your site scheme color.

After that, you will have two codes, one for the search form, and one for the search result.

 Now let’s get our hand dirty with these codes.

Open the page.php of your theme and find this code.

Paste the code of the search result under this code or replace it.

After that, paste the code below at the very top.

The code above will register this template page into wordpress.

Now save as googlesearchresult.php

After that, upload this new page template into the theme folder.
In this example, upload it to wp-content/themes/default

Now edit the draft that we made before and make sure the page template is Google Search Result and then publish this page.

The next step you should do is go to appearance ==> widget ==> and add text widget.
Paste the search form code there.
Click done and then click save.

We are done!
